Classic Cotswold Garden

Timeless design rooted in place and purpose

Nestled between Cirencester and the edge of the Stroud Valleys, this garden sits in the heart of the Cotswolds – a landscape known for its quiet beauty and sense of permanence. We were asked to create a family garden that felt timeless and classical yet completely understated – a space that could grow alongside the people who live there.

When we began, the site was a true blank canvas: overgrown, forgotten, and dotted with the remnants of long-abandoned foundations. But where others saw a heap of rubble, we saw the bones of something full of potential.

One of the most important parts of the brief was accessibility – the whole garden had to be seamlessly navigable by wheelchair, without a single feature that felt clinical or obviously designed for mobility. That quiet sensitivity to form and function became a guiding principle of the design.

With far-reaching views, a beautifully designed house, and a growing young family at its heart, the garden needed to do more than just look good. It had to be built with long-term intention – a structural framework capable of evolving as the family’s needs and lives changed over time.

Over a decade later, the original design still guides new layers and additions. Each year sees fresh ideas built on its foundations, with every new element adding depth to the story we first started telling. It’s been a magical, ongoing collaboration and one that remains incredibly close to my heart.
